Professional Mandate to Disseminate Scholarship

Non-traditional options to disseminate scholarship

As I have worked on developing the KING's newsletter, I have come to suspect that many nurses and nurse scholars do not have a presence on either LinkedIn (LinkedIn: Log In or Sign Up) or ResearchGate (Login to ResearchGate). These are two free ways to make your work more visible as anyone can search for you, find you and then contact you should have they have questions or interest in your work. Too often, we are taught that, in order to disseminate our work, we have to publish or present. And, indeed, these are two very effective ways. However, they are also often very time-consuming or difficult to achieve, making it a great challenge for younger nurses or scholars to disseminate their work. By registering for LinkedIn and/or ResearchGate, however, all nurses and nurse scholars can readily make their work visible. Another option to traditional journal articles and/or presentations is the use of the Sigma Theta Tau International Virginia Henderson Global e-repository, where the KING already has established a 'community' - King International Nursing Group (nursingrepository.org.  Through submitting your work to the e-repository and having it approved for posting, your work is given a permanent address in the Internet so that it can be found by anyone seeking information about your topic. Information about how to submit your work, related to either Dr. KIng's work or scholarship related to her work, can be found in every issue if the KING newsletter. I urge you to think about using these strategies, in addition to the more traditional ones, to better disseminate your work and increasing your visibility.
